We regularly help persons seeking assistance, with Safeway or Subway gift cards, and with rent and utility assistance in conjunction with Catholic Charities, according to the amount of money in our Poor Box Fund. To contribute to the fund, write a check to St. Dominic Church with "Poor Box" in the memo section. Place the check in the Sunday Mass collection or drop it off in our church office during office hours. You can also donate to the Poor Box through Faith Direct.
The O'Boyle Council of the Knights of Columbus has opened a food pantry at our neighboring church, St. Vincent de Paul, in order to provide needy persons and families with food resources. We as a parish contribute by collecting and donating food items on one weekend a month, and then by delivering them to the food pantry afterward. See the bulletins tab for when the next food collection will be.
Every Christmas we have a Giving Tree near the Entrance of the Church. Please consider taking a tag, buying a toy for a child, and then returning the gift by the designated date. The toys are distributed at the annual DC Police Christmas Party.
Every year around Christmas time, the O'Boyle Council of the Knights of Columbus organizes a Coats for Kids event in which children in need can receive a warm coat for winter. To contribute, please write "Coats for Kids" on an envelope and drop it in the collection basket on Sunday or donate through Faith Direct.
Our parish supports the Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center through a monthly collection of items needed by new families. Diapers, wipes, and formula are especially needed, but other good quality items will be accepted as well. Items are collected each first Sunday of the month.
The "Church Cleaning Group" is concerned with the interior of the church. The members meet once a month (usually the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:30–11:30am) to dust, vacuum, mop, remove trash, and to do any other tasks necessary to create clean surroundings conducive to worship. All materials required for these tasks are supplied. For more information, contact [email protected].
The Garden Angels perform humble but vital work for the parish: grounds care. They do lawn and garden maintenance, grounds clean-up, and take care of other tasks which arise. All the necessary tools and gloves are provided. The Garden Angels usually work on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. For more information, contact [email protected].
